Hi, i am new to this so hopefully everyone can help me out. i have searched
on here to for what i think it is and didnt find anything.

This is for windows XP not VISTA: i just recently bought a hard drive off
ebay and i have several hard drives laying around saying the same thing. i
have hooked them up to my computer as if they were a thumb drive through usb
cord and they are all working and the computer recognizes them. i just cant
format them. i hook the hard drives up to my computer and put my recovery
discs in to format them windows xp just to get them to work. but all 3 of
them come up as "No active partion" i looked this up on the web it says to
use Fdisk. i have been looking up a free download but dont trust any of the
downloads. i have also looked up using MS- DOS which i am unsure on how to
use. i just need some help from someone to guide me in the right direction.

Right click on 'My Computer'

Select 'Manage'

In the Computer Management window, look under Storage > Disk Management

You create, delete and format partitions from here.. forget floppies
containing FDISK.. you don't need them..
