I am creating a template in Word 2003 on xp pro, and would like certain parts
of it to have the same stlye. Below is an example of the stlye

Documentation - This is for formatting purposes. The font is all Times New
Roman, however, I want the font size to changes from 12 to 10 after the
hyphen.

My goal was to have this happen automatically in a field. Is there a way to
define a style based on a section of text already formatted?

You can create a style by example. Format the paragraph as desired, then
select New Style in the Styles and Formatting task pane. You'll see that all
the formatting you have applied is already included in the style; all you
have to do is name it. But you can't have more than one font or font size
included in a paragraph style. You could create a separate character style
for the first part. Better still, use a separate paragraph style for the
first part and insert a style separator; that way the first part (which I
assume is a heading) can be picked up by a TOC.
