Have 2 items in my SENT ITEMS folder in Outlook 2003, that give the error
message when displaying them...

"This item cannot be displayed in the Reading Pane. Open the item to read
its contents"

Try to open it and you get "Can't open this item...." use scanpst.exe.
Scanpst.exe fails also, any other ways to fix these errors.

Can you delete the SENT ITEMS folder, how can one re-create it. It appears
to be a special type of folder?

Instead of deleting the folder, have you tried deleting the item? If you
hold the SHIFT button down while you hit the delete button, it will be
permanently deleted, i.e. NOT sent to the Deleted Items Folder.
Try it before deleting the whole folder, and post back with the results.
Good Luck!

If you have a corrupt special folder, the simplest way to correct the
problem, in my opinion, is to create a new PST and make it your default
delivery location. Then copy from the old PST to the new all the items you
wish to keep or simply leave them in the old PST for reference.
