Hi,

With simple file sharing disabled is it possible to share a printer on
an XP Pro computer so that users do not have to enter a user name and
password for access? In other words a printer that is usable to anyone
on the LAN. Should giving access permissions to 'Everyone' work?

Thanks

Jim,

If you enable the Guest account, and give "Everyone" access to the printer, you
should have access. But you do need to enable either the Guest account on the
printer server, or a common non-Guest account on each computer (including the
server).

Thanks, that was the area was looking. I subsequently found that the
Guest account was listed under, "Deny access to this computer from the
network" in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Local Security Policy
under Local Policies, User Rights Assignment. Taking it out of there
seems to allow it to work.

That would be a problem, all right. Thanks for letting us know.
