In Windows XP, it was possible to get Outlook to create email text in one of
the MS Word formats. A Word report form was especially useful to me. Is it
possible to get the same arrangement with Windows Mail in VISTA?

Not directly. But you can either copy and paste the Word document
or else make it an attachment.

Many thanks, Sir ... I do appreciate.
Both of your "solutions" will work, of course, however I am already
overloaded with the excessive "operations" necessary to get simple jobs done
in VISTA.

It looks to me like the very few USEFUL things in Outlook have been dropped
in Windows Mail / VISTA and many annoying features have been added (to the
VISTA version). The VISTA system is useable in my work, but excessively
inefficient in managing adr lists and email.
Thanks again ...

You are welcome to install Outlook (version 2003 or later) on your Vista
machine. Windows Mail was never meant to replace Outlook, only
Outlook Express.

I know you know this - but I will mention it anyway - might be of use to
others. The one main shortcoming of Outlook was in backing up that very long
very valuable adr list. Well - my XP system died and took all that data with
it. While I do have backups (PST format) I understand that there is no way
to xfr PST files into the VISTA contacts list. (I have a similar problem
with "Notes".) And I can't spare the time right now to tackle some more
problems that are well beyond me and my limited understanding of some of
these systems.
Very nice of you to follow up on this - as I may have mentioned, I do
appreciate.

You're very welcome.
You can do a temporary install of Outlook on your Vista system,
import that PST file, export it from there using CSV format, which
Windows Mail can use.

Wow!! Excellent idea. I can do that - when I have a little time, I surely
will do that. Thanks again ...
