how can I create and install point that has setting for
exchange pre configured.

in office 2000 I was able to use the %username% variable
but is not working in 2003 .
any ideas??
 
That would work fine in Office 2003. You are using the CIW to make a .prf
right?
 
This does not work for us either. It actually places %username% instead of
the user's username. Any ideas? Outlook 2003 SP1
 
Details on exactly what settings your using? %username% should work fine for
the user name

I am having the same problem.
When using a system varible Outlook does not resolve the varible to the name.
I am currently using For "MailBox" %MailBoxName% I have tried =MailBoxName
both with and with out the % sign.
I have set in my login script to add this variable to the computer. as well
as to have checked to make sure that the variable is showing when doing a set
command. When doing this Out look is still telling me that "The name could
not be resolved"
Any help with this one would be great.
 
There's no guarantee that Outlook will resolve anything but %username% and probably %userprofile%. One solution would be to "pre-process" the PRF file with your login script, replacing %MailBoxName% with the actual value of that environment variable. Another test you should try is to see if that name resolves if you put it in manually.

I have tried switching the variable to %userName% and making sure that my
variable matched, as well as tried to enter it manually, however OutLook is
still not able to "resolve the name in the address list" is their some
setting that I may have missed?
 
Tell us more about your mail and network environment: Is it Exchange? Does this happen for all users? Just some?

Exchange server 5.5 (Planning for upgrade), Servers NT 4.0 ( Planning for

I am building a generic image with XP SP2 and with Office 2003. to be
deployed to all users. Are goal is to do as little hands on work on the
machines as possible.

Possible problem is that our domain accounts are not the same as our Mailbox
account names.

and yes it is happening to all of our test users.
 
Ok I did do some changing around of my outlook config file and the "username"
variable. I was able to get it to finally resolve to the name using the
"username variable. now this brings up another question. since my domain
account names and mailbox account names are diffrent. If I have my login
script change the system variable of "username" to match the mail box account
name is this going to cause problms with Windows XP?
 
That explains everything. If your domain login names and mailbox account names are not the same, then you can't use %username% in the PRF file.

Does the mailbox name resolve if you put it in manually?
