I would like to create a certificate that can be printed with the name of
each student. The names of the students would be from a database. Can I do
some kind of a mail merge? It really isn't a mail merge, but has the names
of the students inserted into a certificate and pocket card that appear on
one document.

Well, that certainly could be a mail merge: that's exactly what mail
merge is for (to have a constant document with a variable field or
fields drawn from a data source). You would use the Word "Merge"
wizard to set this up, most simply.

Are the certificate and the pocket card just different pages
(different sized pages) within one document? Are the names in an
Access database?

Thanks for your help. The certificate is the top half of a page in a text
box. The pocket card is a text box inserted on the bottom portion of the
page. I need to enter the student's name on both the certificate and the
pocket certificate.

Just set up the mail merge master document with merge fields where you
want the name, and specify a link to the Access database. Should work
fine, but you may want to post a question in one of the Word
newsgroups if you're having trouble with it.

Thanks again, I just tried it with an Excel file and it worked fine. I don't
know what I did wrong the first time I tried it.
