Create a backup of downloaded updates

Occasionally my computer crashes and I then have to
download all the updates and service packs for my Windows
XP operating system and the MS Office software. All the
other software that I download from the Internet allows
me to save them to a specific folder on my computer,
which I can include in my backups. The MS software does
not offer the option. Is there a possibility to retrieve
and save the relevant files so when the computer crashes
I can load the update files from backup and don't have to
spend the usual 2-3 days on a modem internet connection
to load it all down again? Could you pleas let me know
where I can find information on the relevant procedure.

That's your problem. Your computer should not crash occasionally. It should
crash rarely, if ever.

Until you learn how to prevent your computer from crashing, you could invest
in imaging software. This type of software makes a compressed backup of your
entire hard disk, or any one or more partitions, which you can restore in
minutes. Next time your computer crashes, start your computer directly from
the bootable image CD (or DVD) and you're back in business.
