My XP won't boot. I tried to repair using the XP CD and it
gets part of the way through then gives me a CRC error and
stops the install process. I was told by a friend that I
have to Low-Level Format my drive. I put the drive in
another machine (2000) and was able to read and copy some
of the data. Since I don't want to lose all the settings
and information is there anyway to reinstall XP on the
drive with this CRC issue? If my friend is right and I
have to low-level format is there anyway to restore the PC
without having to reinstall every piece of software again?

You can boot to cd,select install xp,select repair current version,if savein
everything is at hand, selecting new version will reformat and delete it all
You can start computer, immediatly start tapping the F8 key, select safe mode
enter as ADM.,then fix the problem or run file transfer wizard, set comp. as ol
save data in a file you create, then transfer data to cd,reboot to xp cd,reinstall xp.
