crashes

I'm posting this this site because it happens with
MovieMaker and almost every video editing application I
have, including Premiere. I captured a home movie from
VHS that was already editied but needed further editing
and titles. It is MPG2 format but every time I import it
into a program the program crashes with the Microsoft
error "problem with XXXXXX" Send Don't send".. Is there
something wrong in any setting or installation of XP Pro
or anything that you can think of. I'm desperate at this
point. Please, if somebody lead me in the right
direction.
 
Playback/importing of MPEG2 content is completely dependent on the third
party MPEG2 decoder installed on your computer. Most do not work well. See
the Importing Source Files > Video > MPEG2 page of my Movie Maker site
