Hi,

I was playing a game today and it crashed, i could not get back to windows
so had to reboot.

I got the message that there was something wrong with my boot.ini and the
file
hall.dll (c:\windows\system32 ) was damaged.

I used the Norton Ghost 9.0 cd and recovered those files from an image of a
week ago.

It seems to work again, but i want to make sure.. Is there a way to check
the Windows install?
I know there is that sfc utility.. But is there something that tests windows
more seriously? (And maybe third-party software)

Thanks,

Allegro

If the Hal.dll was still missing or damaged you would not be able to boot up
your system, since you seem to be using it then it must be ok.

The HAL.DLL message is due to a damaged Boot.INI file. Recovery console has
several utilities for repairing that (FIXBOOT, BOOTCFG) See the help entries
for info on those.
