cpu usage to 100% Why

I changed nothing and the same old apps now bring my system to 100% which
slows it to a crawl. Well, I did make one change; I went from dialup to
cable 768k. Could that be the reason? I realize that I am now on line all
the time, but I have been online via dialup previously and I never went to
100%. Now it happens everyday.

I checked and my AV and adware, spyware are all up to date and I did
complete scans and defragged all partitions.

Try using Windows Task Manager (press Ctrl+Alt+Del key) then click on the
Processes tab, then click to the CPU column to sort processes from highest
CPU usage to lowest. One or more processes should be at the top, what are
they?

JS

with cpu usage at 10% "system Idle Process at 87-97
next is Azureus.exe (torrent download) at 2-8
taskmgr.exe at 3-5 (sometimes jumps ahead of azureus

Now let me start my burn software or a video player. Those two and another
that I can not think of are principle bring my sys to 100%.

Now my burn software is on top at 85-95 and CPU usage is 100%. If I tried to
watch a video now it would not play and cruzing the net is terrible slow. It
was not like that before when I would sometime burn, watch a video and even
download files Yea the download would be very slow being dialup and burning
and video watching, but it could be done. Now...NO WAY.

Now that you have broadband your bit torrent client is roaming the
internet searching for downloads 24/7. These clients eat up resources
while doing this. Check the Azureus interface for an options screen
where you can uncheck "Start when Windows starts" or something similar.
These clients are notorious for loading other crap in the background
that will hose your system.
The only reliable, clean bit torrent client is the one from
www.bittorent.com. It does not not come with any hidden software.

Utorrent http://www.utorrent.com/ and my download speeds have
increased dramatically.

Azureus isn't that bad, it's clean, but slooow.

I tied bittorent before I tried Azureus and it would not work. Azureus was
recommended by several people and it has been working flawlessly for several
months. It only starts when I start it, I keep a careful lookout on my
msconfig startup, since many apps put unneeded things in there, but Azureus
did not.

Right now azureus is not downloading and cpu is at 100%, other times it is
closed and still I reach 100% easily.

I will look into changing torrent apps later, since you both say other apps
are better, but I really do not think this is my problem now.

download and run Process Explorer
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

There is a cpu history in the upper right, click on it; run your mouse
over the graph it will show you what your problem application is
remove it/ reinstall it/ find better.

again, I installed nothing new, same old apps, just added or activated the
driver for the LAN cable connection

online speed is fine, until I open a few more apps, then everything crawls.

Thanks, I will see if my connection speed can be improved.
