cpu usage from system process

the process called "System Idle Process" is always at a high level of cpu usage (ie-right now its at 97%) . how can i get it to stop doing that? i am trying to play a game but it keeps freezing
 
Idle means the same here as it usually does. A system idle process of 97%
means your processor is running at 3%. Your game freezing problem lies
elsewhere.

Thats normal for xp,mine runs at 99% but could/can play unrea
tournament all day long.Look in event viewer for something else causein
the problem.
