CPU Usage 100%

For the last couple days my PC has been very sluggish. If I
look at the performance, it is listed as 100 percent PC
usage and this is when I have nothing open. What can be
causing this?
 
OK that seemed to help, but how do I make sure I dont have
to do that everytime I turn the computer on. Thanks

What process was using the processing capacity? If it made a difference
then I imagine you used End Task! Is that what you did?

To answer your latest question we need to know what was using the CPU?
The usage may or may not be normal!

Are you using Adaware to check on and remove spyware / parasites? Do you
have a Firewall installed?

Hello,

i had the same problem. I have a Gericom 1st Supersonic M6T with
1200MHz-Pentium III Tualatin-Prozessor and 384MB RAM.I did a clean Setup
from an selfmade XP Pro SP2-Slipstream-CD. After finishing Setup and
rebooting i exactly had the same problem. It started to work at 100% CPU
usage - and didn´t stop. After i let it work the whole night the next day it
seemed to be fine - CPU-usage at 2-4 %.
But after rebooting i got the same problem after ca. 5 minutes.
After a week with that i today decided to reinstall SP2 again (tried safe
booting, boot with chosen entrys, with internet connection, without it - all
time the same).
When rebooting from hard disk the problem came again!!!
Now i try to install XP Pro SP1 - if id will work, it will be the last
update i´ll make!!!

Just let me be informed what´s going on with your PC.
