am having issues where the machine suddenly switchs off (not shut down...
really switch off)

Thought it could be something related to the cooling fans...
Everest reports CPU temperature on the 90 to 95 centigrades (194 to 203
Fahrenheit)....
(have a P4 3GHz.... on an ASUS P5GD1)

What is the normal temp?

Many thanks!!!!!!

The normal temperature should be around 40 degrees centigrade at idle
and around 50 under load. It sounds as if the heat sink is not properly
mounted or your fan has failed. The new mounting style on the socket
775 is tricky to install correctly.

Keep in mind that heat sufficient to force shutdown is probably damaging
your processor. Even 160 F is too hot. Limit your use until you are able to
correct this problem.

<sigh>.. going to do it immediatly...
Is there any way to know if the CPU is damaged? e.g. tests to trigger?
(apart from nothing working of course...)

thank you!
