We have two computers that need to be upgraded to XP.

They both have PII 350 CPUs on DFI P2XBL & QDI BrillianX I/IS mother boards.
Memory will be upgraded to 128 or 512.

What has been the experience in running XP on a processor at this speed?

At work I have at 450 mhz with 128 MB as a test machine.
Do not have much problem with the CPU speed. Can not
comment on the 350.

But for memeory you will need at least 256 MB. With the
128 MB i use, I get a lot of disk swapping. So between the
choice of 128 and 512, go with 512.

You're kidding right? This is like putting a v12 Jag engine in a Volkswagen frame. Sure it can be done but you won't get all the use speed of it you should. With the money you are going to waste updating your memory and sound and vid and so on it would be a better idea just to spend $500 and buy a tower with all the stuff you need including XP OEM. I recommend 1Ghz processor, 512MB RAM, 64MB video card, A Mother Board no older than two-three years. Then from there it depends on what you want to do. Good luck.

you will not be very happy with the performance of xp on
a machine that slow.
a better choice would be win 2000

MS recommends 400 or better. They will run with 256 or 512 RAM but CPU wit
800mhz or better would be the norm
Use 98SE or ME on the old ones.

You got some good answers to this same question earlier. To sum up,
you'd be better off buying new basic workstation type machines if you
can, figuring that they will cost you around $500 each, including
monitor. Otherwise, understand that you will want to upgrade to at
least 256MB of RAM and don't expect the machines to be fast. Turn off
most of XP's eye candy when running them and be sure the hard drives
are big enough.

Actually, given the size of Windows XP, a more appropriate metaphor would be
"Putting a Honda engine into an locomotive".

With 128 you'll be swapping even before windows is finished booting I
believe.
