My computer can be find 4 more then a hour or even as little at 2 min. Then
it will just shut down. I can reformat and install xp and it will not be a
problem for weeks. If i go into the power options and change the press power
button or sleep button opion to ask me what to do. It will not just shut
down it will ask.

It sounds like your power supply might be going bad but you might also want
to check the headers/jumpers connecting your chassis (case) to the
motherboard. Just make sure all the jumper shunts are securely on the jumper
pins.

Sounds like you have two issues to me. One is heat and the other is acpi.

concerning heat: make sure the cpu heat sink is firmly fastened and the fan
is working. If the cpu overheads the mainboard will autoshutdown to protect
itself. Check all fans in the system. If, when the case is closed, the
power supply fan air feels hot consider adding another exhaust fan to the
case. Make sure the case has airflow all around it and you are not boxing it
in a desk cubby with no ventilation out the back.

The acpi [not being able to do sleep] can be related to the power supply,
mainboard or bios configuration. You must make sure in the bios that acpi is
enabled before installing XP. Otherwise the hardware enumeration in the OS
will NOT include the ability to autoshutdown or do any of the other things
associated with acpi.
