CPU always running at 100 percent

When I open the Windows task manager it reads that my
computer is constantly using 100% of the CPU. So i looked
under the processes tab to see what was running all the
CPU
and it says SVCHOST.EXE is using about 70 percent and
system is using 30 percent. Is this normal or is it making
my computer work much harder than it needs to?

There are also 7 listings of SVCHOST.EXE in the process
tab
for the image name, only one it running 70 percent of the
CPU

Ryan,

Svchost is a multi-functional process that Microsoft uses for running a number
of system services. Half a dozen instances of it is not abnormal.

To find what services are involved in your situation, get Process Explorer
(free) from <http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml>.
Provides way more information than Task Manager. You can identify the svchost
in question, and find out what services it provides.

Cheers,
Chuck

Go to Task Manager. Forget about System Idle Process running high. I
is insignificant to your problem. The solution: right-click on your
drive. On the bottom you will want to un-check the Allow Indexin
Service button. Also, you can end the process in Task Manager calle
CIDAEMON.EXE, which is the indexing service. It is used for fast fil
search. But, if you fix your cpu utilization, fast file searching i
not a problem. Do it, it works. wood

I'm having this exact same problem. Can you please post
a message as soon as you find out how to resolve this
problem? Thanks, Kirk

Kirk,

of system services. Half a dozen instances of it is not abnormal. Your
situation may look identical, but YOU still need to do some research first, to
find the cause of YOUR problem.
