DB Admin

I use a Gateway P4 PC w/Win 98 here at home. It is newly
formatted & when doing that I upped to Office 2000
(Standard) (from 97 Professional).

I need to create a MS Access database in Access 97
format. I have tried just intalling Access 97 from the
Pro. disk, doesn't work...

So I uninstalled every MS Office app. I have from Control
Panel, then rebooted & installed Office 97, rebooted & it
still won't run!

Tells me "The Dynamic Link Library mso9.dll is missing".

If this is any clue, the shortcut icons for Office still
look like the 2000 version, NOT the 97 version...

HELP! I just want MS Access to run! I paid for it...I DO
own it...I just want it to work without having to reformat
my hard drive again!!! Time consuming & a major pain!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

All versions of ms-access after a97 actually have the ability to create a97
format files.

Create your database in a2000, and then go

tools->database utilities->convert database.
I have tried just installing Access 97 from the

I have installed 3 versions of ms-access on the same pc..and they all work.

When installing access 97, you often get a "you don't have a license error".
This is a common install problem, and there is a free download fix for this.

(however, the following of yours does not hint that this is your problem).
So I uninstalled every MS Office app. I have from Control
Panel, then rebooted & installed Office 97, rebooted & it
still won't run!

Also, when you do install the version(s) of office...you don't install to
the same directory..do you? Can you imagine thousands of small .dll programs
being written over top of each other (and they all belong to differnt
versons of office. The resulting mess would be so big as to nearly wreak
your pc. So, if you do install office97/access97...then make sure you
install it into its own dir...and not the default.

At this point, you might have to get your hands on the office clean-up
un-install tool. Before you do that...here is some reading on installing
mutilate versions of office on the same pc.

However, as mentioned...access 2000, 2002, and 2003 all have the ability to
create access97 format files.
