A few certain websites are really slowing down on my computer, as well as
AIM. After I installed SP2, everything was running perfect, as fast as ever.
I run Ad-Aware every day, and I even defragmented yesterday but these items
are still slow. I am sure it is not the website's problem because it runs
perfect on my friends computer that has SP2. Can anyone tell me what's wrong
and how to fix it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Which Sites ?, could be Internet Explorer checking certificates that
cause the delay. Also some type of active content such as Shockwave
or another plug-in. How do you have Cookie handling setup?
Is the delay from clicking the URL to page load or just the page
itself - You've not provided enough information to help lead you to
possible fixes.

www.iLrn.com, azlyrics.com, AOL instant messenger. I use ilrn and AIM a lot
so that's important. I don't know anything about certificate checking. ilrn
does use java with the math problems but as i said, it didn't do this merely
a few days ago, even though sp2 was still installed. The delay is between
clicking the url and the page being loaded.

Even this website has slowed down.

As always, the first approach is to eliminate Malware as the cause.
Download/Update & Run both AdAware & Spybot. Other things
to check would be to "Purge" your IE cache, Update to the latest
Java runtime. Also open a Command Prompt window and type
Ping one of your problematic sites. Watch for the return packet time.
If excessively long, you may have a DNS problem with your ISP.
Using Broadband a Ping packet should be acknowledged in under
100 mS (Milliseconds). Finally, I would check your Hosts file and
make sure you only have one active entry for Localhost. The file
is located at C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc
It has no extension so you'll have to Right Click and do an Open
with call to Notepad to edit/view. Ignore the lines with # as those
are comment delimiters.

How do u purge your IE cache? And how do u update Java? Everything else you
said to do came out ok.

Open Internet Explorer. Click Tools, Internet Options. On the
General (Tab) look in the center of the Details box. Click the box
"Delete Files" in the Temporary Internet Files section. It will prompt
to remove "Offline", answer Yes.

While there, Click the Privacy tab, Advanced. Click the box that
says "Override Automatic Cookie Handling". Check Accept for 1st
Party cookies and Block for 3rd Party cookies, then Apply & OK.

As to Java - It depends on whether your install has the Microsoft
Java or Sun's. If you open Control Panel (Classic View) and you
see a Java Applet then you have Sun's version. If not, you are using
Microsoft's. I generally recommend that users uninstall the MS Java
and replace it with the Sun version ( 1.42_05). Microsoft has been
enjoined by the courts to stop producing and distributing it's own
flavor of Java. They (MS) used to offer an automated tool to take
their Java software out of your XP install. Recently, I've been unable
to locate the tool and suspect it's been removed from download.
To manually uninstall java, cut and paste the line below into the Run
box and press Enter
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection java.inf,UnInstall
This will require a reboot. Afterwards go to the following URL &
download and install the Sun Java.
