Counting text field

I know this is a simple question, so you can answer now & laugh at me
later...

I'm doing a report on psychiatric admissions. For ex, patient 1 was
admitted evening vs. day, was billable vs. not billable, etc....

How do I count the # of times each of these occurred (i.e. eve vs. day
admissions)? I know I've done something like this before, but my mind is
blank. Thanks.

Do you want to do that using a query?

SELECT Sum(IIf([FieldName]="A Value",1,0)) AS NewFieldName
FROM TableName

Or, to do it again in the report footer?
You can write the text field control source
=Sum(IIf([FieldName]="A Value",1,0))
