Hi -

I am currently training employees to use Excel more efficiently and as
part of the course, I explain the uses of AutoFill.

I warn them to verify that any patterns or series that it AutoFills are
what they expected, and not some other pattern.

As an example of where it can go wrong, I type 1,2,4,8 into four
adjacent cells (hoping to get 16,32,64...) and use AutoFill to continue
it.

What it actually gives is 9.5, 11.8, 14.1... or different, depending on
where I start the series and how many intial cells I use.

I'd like to tell them what pattern it is ACTUALLY continuing, but I
can't see one!

Any suggestions?!

it's a Linear Trend. When using the right mouse botton to drag the fill
handle, you will find this option, too.
