Count If Cell Shading(Color, Pattern) Equal

I would like to count cells based on there shading. This shading may be forced via conditional formatting, copied from a "pattern" cell, or just manually set. I thought that ages ago you could get info on cell color/pattern (numeric value). I am probably thinking about a different tool. Have looked at CELL and INFO. Any ideas?
