I have a field that holds the first names of people
[psn_First}. I would like to know how to write a query to
get the return of a number for how many characters are in
the field. For example: "Joe" would
return "3", "Christine" would return "9" etc.

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Just type:

len([psn_First])

as the data source for one of your columns in a query, or
as the control source on a form or report.

HTH, Ted Allen

SELECT Len([NameOfField]) AS TheLength FROM NameOfTable

Where 'NameOfField' is the name of the field you want to measure,
'TheLength' is whatever you want to call the calculated column, and
NameOfTable is, obviously enough, the name of your table.
