While trying to run a game application, I was notified by XP that the file
secdrv.sys was corrupted. After running chkdsk, I found that this file had
been truncated.

Does anyone know how to replace this file??

thanks

1 - Click on Start, choose Run and type "cmd" (without the quotes)
2 - Make sure that the Windows XP cd is in the cd-rom drive
3 - Type X: and hit enter (X being the cd-rom drive letter)
4 - Type cd i386 and hit Enter
5 - Type expand secdrv.sy_ c:\secdrv.sys and hit Enter.
6 - The file is now expanded to the root of the C: drive
7 - Browse to the root of the C: drive, copy the file
8 - Browse to C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS and copy the file, if it asks to overwrite, say YES.
9 - Reboot system and test game.

Thanks for previous post regarding my corrupt file problem. I was able to
reinstall file as you recommended. However, this didn't solve my problem.

Now when launching the game, my computer crashes with a blue screen of
death. The error message that gets sent to Microsoft indicateds that I still
have a driver problem.

What do you recommend to fix this. Should I go back to a previous restore
point? Should I do a repair install of Windows XP?

Please advise.

Thanks

I would try the restore point first. if that doesn't help then

I would then uninstall the program / game

Run the System File Checker "SFC /scannow" (with your XP Cd in the drive)

Then reinstall the game and try again.

If all else fails as a last resort the Reinstall / Repair of XP

Darren

I have tried everything except the reinstall of XP. I started to do this
but I got an error message I think because I have updated my XP with the
service packs and other auto updates. The system is telling me my version on
the computer doesn't match the CD ROM. How do I address this?

Also, the actual error I am getting when the computer goes to the blue
screen of death is:

STOP: 0 x C0000005, 0 x 825e3e22, 0 x F4dc784c, 0 x 00000000)

Maybe this helps.

Thanks for your help.
