I have recently added an external USB hard drive but when I switch it on it
corrupts my recycle bin. I have tried adjusting the recycle bin settings but
this has no effect. The only way to rectify the problem is to unplug the
drive.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

See if manufacturer has his own drivers. I cant defrag
or zip with MS drivers but can with Adaptec's.

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

"The Recycle Bin on E:\ is corrupted. Do you want to empty the recycle bin
for this drive" (E:\ being the external drive)

This is the message that I get when I try to use the recycle bin after I
connect the external hard drive. When I delete something from E:\ it does not
go to the recyle bin

The drive type is a Maxtor "One Touch" 80GB which came with it's own driver
and Dantz Retrospective 6.0 backup software. I have not tried any alternative
drivers

This seems to work for many: Make sure that something is in the Recycle Bin
(delete any file). With the Recycle Bin closed, right click and choose:
Empty Recycle Bin. When the confirm box appears, click ok. Reboot. Now the
Recycle Bin should work correctly.

Delete the ENTIRE recycle folder on E:

For what it's worth, this very thing happened to me today. The last time I
think I saw an error message like that, it was Windows 95 or something. :)
But this is exactly what I did to fix the problem.
