Corrupted recycle bin icon setting

Roger

I have an nvidia display card, and followed the instructions for
disabling nvidia's display services. I still am having problems
with my recycle bin icon. The icon that the computer displays for
the bin is not correct. I have tried rebuilding the icon using
tweakui, but that does not accomplish anything. I can manually
reset the icon, but as soon as I reboot (or even log off and log
back on), the reset icon is lost. Am running xp pro, all updates
in place. Viral screen is clear. Any advice?

Hi Roger,

Someone posted advice concerning this in this newsgroup a few days
ago, here it is: "Did some monitoring of the registry. I found that
when a scheduled task was run, winlogon.exe
(running as SYSTEM) was executing:

"CreateKey
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Clsid\"

and this was overwriting the info stored there with the info found
here:

"HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\"

The workaround is to modify the permissions for

"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Clsid"

so as to deny SYSTEM Set Value permissions. The nice part is, you
don't have to deny yourself any permissions and can customize the
icons & apply saved themes as normal."

I have done this with mixed results. I had changed the name of the
recycle bin and it got changed to the default :-/
However the icon I had assigned to the recycle bin has remained as I
put it :-)

Good luck
