Corrupted file

I have two photos (as seperate files) in a folder. When I try to delete
either one or the folder as a whole I get a message that the files are
corrupted and cannot be deleted. I cannot open them in any program that I
have. I cannot figure out a way to get rid of these files. I am sure it is
something I am overlooking as I am a bit of an amateur. I would appreciate
some advice on this matter. I have always gotten great help on this site.
thanks in advance.

Chkdsk would not work. I will try running safe mode. The files are on an
external hard drive. I did not mention that in my initial question. I do
not know if that makes a difference. Thanks for your reply pabnu2.

I tried running Safe Mode and got the same notice. File unreadable and/or
corrupted.

Make a note of the path and filenames of the corrupted files. Then boot
into Safe Mode Command Prompt only, navigate to your external drive and
the proper folder (if applicable) and DEL the files from there.

Also, see this article by MVP Jim Eshelman. Although it is geared
towards malware removal, look at the "Other Ideas..." section at the
end:
