Corrupt TCP/IP stack?

dan

I have Windows XP Home on my laptop. I was hit by one or
several of the recent worms(not sure which). Have McAffe
antivirus and firewall which can no longer reach the
update site. I downloaded stinger.exe from McAffee to
repair worm damage but it apparently did not repair some
sort of damage to my TCP/IP stack. I can dial in to my
ISP at 50 kbs but cannot connect using my linksys WAP
Router even though the tray icon indicates I have
excelllent reception. Have tried both Static and DHCP IP
addressing using the IP, DNS, Gateway numbers from my ISP
with no joy. I know the Wireless LAN/Router/ADSL
connection is working because my desktop is connected.

My theory is I have a corrupt TCP/IP stack on the laptop
and want advice on how to fix. Am I at the reload XP
stage?

Thx

It's me again....forgot to say that I have tried to ping
from the suspect laptop to the networked desktop over my
wireless lan with no joy.

Hi dan,

There's a very simple manner to discover if you have a
really corrupt TCP/IP stack

simply ping yourself @ localhost
if you dont get an answer from localhost this means you
could have a corrupt network stack...
In this case you could try to reinstall your stack from
the netshell of windows XP with the following command...

in command type netsh
then type this command in the netshell : int ip reset
You can make a log file of all the items that has been
reinstalled by adding a name and location at the end of
the command...
