Corrupt System Log

Currently operating on a web server that has a corrupt system log that may
be hiding other errors as well. Is there an easy way to repair this?

Also, getting this error when trying to update SvcPk4:

"The core system file (kernel) used to start this computer is not a
Microosft Windows file. The Service Pack will not be installed."

New to this company so I have no history associated with this server.
Blessed be the person who might have an answer for this.
