Dan

Please to help me! My son installed a file for a game and
now the computer won't restart.

WIN XP Pro, SP-1.

At bootup: "Windows could not start because the following
file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can atempt to repair w/setup CD".
I tried this, with windows setup, hit "r" for recovery
console, hit "1" to log onto the windows installation, and
I get a blue screen that says:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut
down to prevent damage to your computer.
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
check to make sure any new hardware or software is
properly installed...
Technical info
*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0xCDCDCDCD, 0x00000002, 0x00000001,
0x807C396A)"

I disabled the BIOS caching, shadowing, onboard sound and
modem to no avail. I get that same blue screen. All the
boot options at F8 lead to the same result.

Thanks for your help, Dan

P.S.
We have grisoft antivirus updated daily so I don't think
it was a virus.

If I can just get to a command prompt, can I restore the
file? (per Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 823614)

Thanks in advance (I hope), Dan

You probably have already done this but I would call the
manufacturer and explain the problem.
