Ok, I like many other here have had this problem several times since upgrading to Windows XP (Pro). In the past 2 months I have had the error "Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt: \Windows\System32\Config\System"
three times. I do not want links to article 30745 in the Microsoft database describing how to recover from such a problem. I want to know why so many of us are getting this error to begin with? How can it be avoided? What is causing the corruption? This problem seems to be very widespread.

My Ram has been tested so I know it is not the problem.
Windows XP seems to be causing the disk errors at random.
Please offer advice to help me with the cause of this problem.
Oddly Windows 98 never gave me any error of this type (on same machine) and was much more stable.
