I have a .doc file that when opened comes up with a
warning:
This document may be corrupt, to preserve the contents:
Choose Select all from the edit menu, then choose copy
form the edit menu. Create a new document, then choose
paste from the edit menu.
However following the instructions leaves me with new file
with the same error. How can I clear this problem? I'm
using Word 2000 on Windows 2000.

many thanks

Mike

Instructions slightly off...

The first way to check for a corrupt document is to
copy the entire thing, *excluding* the last paragraph mark, into a new
document. That last paragraph mark (click on ¶ on the standard toolbar to
show marks) holds a lot of information which can get corrupted, and copying
the text into a document with a fresh one keeps your formatting, but can fix
some glitches.
