I can't find out how to correct the main dictionary. Receive is spelled
correctly and as recieve. There are others, too. Thanks.

"recieve" is NOT in the main dictionary. You may have inadvertently added it
to your custom dictionary, in which case you can remove it. You can also tag
correctly spelled words as "misspelled" by using an exclusion dictionary.
See these articles:

checker

Point 1: 'recieve' is not in the main dictionary in any version of
Word. If the spell-checker isn't correcting it, then the cause is one
or both of these situations:

- At some point you clicked the Add button during a spell-check to
place it in a custom dictionary. Go to Tools > Options > Spelling &
Grammar, click the Dictionaries... button (Custom Dictionaries... in
later versions of Word), select a custom dictionary, and click the
Edit button (Modify in later versions). Remove any erroneous
spellings.

- The misspelled text is marked as '(no proofing)' either directly or
by applying a style that includes it. (In later versions, this is a
checkbox in the Tools > Language > Set Language dialog.) Remove that
attribute from the text and/or style.

Point 2: The standard set of AutoCorrect entries contains one that
automatically changes 'recieve' to 'receive'. This is not affected by
either item in Point 1, so that entry may have been removed. Go to
Tools > AutoCorrect Options and look at the list of corrections.

If there are words in the main dictionary that you want to have
flagged anyway, you can create an exclusion dictionary. See
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/ExcludeWordFromDic.htm for
instructions. However, I don't think that's what you need in this
case.
