I have my medical records in a spreadsheet in different worksheets by year. When
I open a new worksheet, say 2004, and try to copy the 2003 worksheet into it to
maintain the formatting, it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? I'm using Excel
2000.

You could try to make and then maintain a sort of "form template" for your
WB.

Start with one of your existing, properly formatted and filled in WSs.

Hold down <Ctrl>,
Click in the tab and hold down the mouse,
You will see a small arrowhead above the left border of the tab,
And the cursor will have a form icon with a plus sign added to it.

Now, slowly drag to the right, until the arrowhead moves to the right border
of the tab,
And the form icon is in the middle of the next tab.
Release the mouse, *then*,
Release <Ctrl>.

You have just copied the selected WS, and it's name has a (2) appended to
it.

Now, go through this WS and erase and/or clear any data and/or labels.
Right click in the tab and choose "Rename",
And change the name to something like "Master" or "Main".

*Without* holding down <Ctrl> (icon has no plus sign), do what you did
before to the tab of this "Main" sheet, and move it to the beginning or the
end of your WB.

When it now comes time for a new month or year to start, copy this Main
sheet in the same manner, immediately rename it to your current month or
year, and you should be home free.

Thought I would mention another technique. Copy the contents of you
2003 spreadsheet to a new spreadsheet. Then, in the 2003 spreadsheet
click on the upper left corner, that gray box above row number 1 and t
the left of column A, to select the entire sheet. Click on Forma
Painter, change to the new spreadsheet, then click on the upper lef
corner of it. The format for all cells in the old sheet will be copie
to the new sheet
