Is there an easy way to assign new icons to an exisitng icon withour broswing
for a new icon. In other words can icons be copied and then pasted from
anywhere?

Sure thing, Icons are image files that are compressed in a small graphic,
usually ranging from 16 pixels by 16 pixels up to 128 pixels by 128 pixels,
which represents a file, folder, application or device on a computer
operating system.

You can transfer them in any folder, however I wouldnt recommend it. Copying
these ico files are safer. Normally they reside in program files folder
depending on which program an icon is assigned to.

GLuck!

An icon is just an *.ico file. That contains one or more images,
usually at different resolutions and/or color depths. (Icons can also
be embedded in *.exe or *.dll files.) You can copy or move *.ico files
just like any other files. You can change the icon displayed by a
shortcut by right-clicking the shortcut, choosing "Properties",
clicking the "Shortcut" tab, then clicking the "Change icon..."
button. YOu can type in a file name, browse for a file (which could be
a (*.ico, *.exe, *.dll).

If this doesn't answer you question it's because I'm not at all sure
what you're talking about.

right now if i want to change an icon i go to properties and select change
icon. that takes a lot of time if i want to change many files to the same
icon. also, if i want to say, use the fedex logo on the shortcut to a fedex
site I don't know how to do that?

i downloaded the fedex file you suggested but it is not .ico, it is gif and
the icon change program won't accept it. i tried changing the extension to
ico but it did not work. any ideas?
