Copying Dates

I have created a spreadsheet which uses a column of dates throughout. I used
a very simple formula (ex =A22). As long as there is a date in A22, this
works fine. When the cell is blank, the new cell has a date of 01/00/1900.
What is the proper way to duplicate this data to a new column?
