I'm using Word 2000 with Windows 2000 and have used the Organizer to
copy autotext from an open doc to my normal.dot and vice versa. Now
when I attempt to do the very same process, when I click the autotext
tab it changes the options available on the left side of the dialog
box from "Documents Available in:" to "Documents available in
Normal.dot." It now shows the same autotext options in both boxes.
However, when I select the styles, toolbars or macros tabs - it
changes back to "Documents available in" on the left side.

I hope this makes sense. Thank you so much for your assistance in
advance.

Hi Michele

AutoTexts can only live in templates. It's one of the significant
differences in the file structure of a document and a template.

So if you have document open, and you look at the Styles tab of the
Organizer, it will show you the styles in your open document, and the styles
in normal.dot. (I've always thought that this was a bit mad--why doesn't it
show you the styles in the template of your document? But that doesn't
really matter here!)

But, if you have a document open, and you look at the AutoText tab of the
Organizer, Word knows that documents can't hold AutoTexts, and it wants to
show you something, so it shows you the AutoTexts in normal.dot on both
sides of the Organizer.

I suspect that in the past, you've copied AutoTexts from one *template* to
normal.dot and vice versa.
