Copy of original XP disk?

I have a legal xp home ed. installation.

Is there a copy protection system on the original disk?
I would like to know if it is possible to make a copy of that disk,
use the copy if needed and keep the original disk in a safe place?

Did you try to copy it? What was the result!

Yes, it is permitted to make an archival copy of the WinXP
installation CD, for that very purpose.

Thanks to you all for your help.
No I did not try to make a copy because I was afraid the copy would
have some hidden problems.

I will now proceed :-))
