Hi,

I am using Word97. I have a document with different
headers and footers throughout. I created a copy of this
document for a client by doing a "save as". In the new
copy several of the headers and footers are messed up i.e.
some run into each other, others have the wrong one and
others are blank.

Since my source document is good what could cause the copy
to be messed up. I have to give an explanation to the
client as to what went wrong. Please help.

Hard to be sure. It could have been a "hiccup" in the
computer or network, right at the time you were performing
the save. If you sent this file to the client via email, it
could also have been an error in transmission. (It's usually
a good idea to ZIP *.doc files to prevent corruption.) If you
try SaveAs, and exactly the same thing happens, then I
suspect the original file is slightly damaged, and that it's
only manifesting when Word processes the "Save As". If the
client is using a version later than Word97, it could be that
the document is slightly damaged, and that this is only
manifesting in the later version.

All these possibilities are "known" (in other words, they've
happened before, more than once).
