Hello Everyone,

I would like to put all of my emails (including attachments and sub folders)
contacts and calendar onto a DVD.

Then I want to selectively delete in Outlook 2003 version 11.0 old emails
(thus free up some space on my hard drive) however I still would like to be
able to aceess these email on the DVD if I need to.

I have tried copying the files ie. pst files using windows explorer however
an error comes up. I have also tried using Ashampoo DVD burner. Any advice
please.

You could allways Archive old mail to a specific Archive (eg Archive2006)
then copy this Archive file to media, then delete the Archive on the PC
You would need to Compact after this operation.
You wont be able to read a pst stored on a DVD, you can on a thumb drive.

However if you are that short of space I think it time to either upgrade
your hd, or add a slave, or invest in an external drive.

Could you please give me a link for step by step directions. Is a thumb
drive a USB drive ?

I have 80Gb but the way windows set up C and D drive it is all writing to C
drive hence may have to re format and reinstall.

Cheers
Jason

A thumb drive is usually usb connected
1) If you select File>Archive you will get the option to specify an archive
name/location, and the other archive settings
2) When copying an OL data File ensure you have *closed* OL, copying a data
file open within OL will corrupt it
If the data is important to you you should store the backup on two different
media

A couple of sites worth reading;
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.asp
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/commandlines.htm

I still say if you are that short of space you need a slave or external
drive, various win problems occur when free space is low.

You can move My Documents to D drive (Properties of My Documents>Move)

Unless you do a Custom Instal of any Apps, they will by default be installed
to C
