Have just bought the new dido cd which is copy control protected. on my work computer i can see and rip this cd with WMP9 and any other player (musicmatch jukebox, media jukebox, real player etc). however on my home pc none of these players will recognise it as an audio cd and i can only play it using the player installed on the cd, and cant rip it. i would like to have it in my playlists at home but not sure how to do it. any ideas as to why the difference between the 2 would be much appreciated. Both pcs are xp pro SP

Try holding down the Shift button as you insert the CD. This should prevent
the player on the CD from launching and may allow you to rip it. Failing
that, you could always just create a data CD of the files you ripped at work
and bring it home.

if i dont run the installed player it just isnt reconised as an audio cd
i guess this is the idea of copy control, but why only on the one pc

If that's the case, it's not a real CD. If it doesn't have the CD logo on it
somewhere, return it for a refund.

Discovered how to do this almost by accident with a Dido copy control
CD.

1 Put the CD in your computer. This launches a message saying you need
to install some software to play the cd. This is the copy contol
software - but click YES.
2 Play a few seconds of the CD
3 Go to Windows system restore in XP - or equivalent and restore your
system to just before you put the CD in.
4 Now put the CD back in your drive.

After this the CD rips and plays fine for me in Mediaplayer 9,
creative and other software.
