I use Word 2003. I have created macros on my desktop and want to transfer to
my laptop. The 2 computers are tier to tier networked (it might be called
peer to peer). i have read the prior posts about macro copying, but I am
unable to do it. I need an explanation for a beginner.
Macros are (usually) stored in a template. If you didn't specify
somewhere else, that will be the Normal.dot template.
Since both computers belong to you, it's simplest to copy the
Normal.dot file from your desktop and paste it into the same folder on
your laptop. Since Normal.dot is a personal "scratchpad" for
customizations, we discourage people from overwriting their
co-workers' templates for this purpose, but it's OK to do it for
yourself.
You can use Windows Explorer on the desktop. In the Address bar, type
%appdata%\Microsoft\Templates
and press Enter. The abbreviation %appdata% will expand to something
like
C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data
You should see Normal.dot there. Copy it to the clipboard. Then
navigate to the same folder on the laptop. Rename Normal.dot there to
something like OldNormal.dot, and then paste the desktop's template
from the clipboard. When you open Word, you should find the macros
there.
If there are customizations (styles, toolbars, AutoText) in the old
Normal.dot on the laptop that you want to keep, you can copy them to
the new Normal.dot by using the Organizer (Tools > Templates & Add-Ins
