Hi Henry

Problems with Word copy and paste sometimes relate to the Blaster virus, so
if you have just set up a new computer it's worth checking that
possibility - some people have been infected while connecting to get their
security updates!

If you got Word as part of Works Suite, the culprit is the Microsoft Works
Suite Add-in for Word, which clears the Clipboard when you start Word. If
you are running Word freestanding (not starting it from the Works Task
Launcher) and don't expect to be using a Works address book or database as
the data source for a mail merge in Word, you will avoid a lot of problems
(this is one of the minor ones; there are worse) by uninstalling the add-in
through Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs.

If Word is not part of Works, the problem could still be caused by an
add-in, as there are several others that are notorious for causing problems.
