I periodically back up all of my data (about 150-170MB) to
my 256MB USB memory stick. This operation takes about
30-45 minutes. I do it by simply doing "copy" and "paste"
operations from the "my computer" screen.
The problem is this: some of the files involved have some
special characteristic that causes Windows to stop working
and to ask whether I really want to copy the file (e.g.,
the thumbnail files in directories that contain images).
Once I get one of these messages, I can choose "Yes to
all," and then the paste operation goes through to the end.
But there's no way to know when this message will come up,
and sometimes it doesn't come up until 20 minutes into the
paste operation.
Because the paste takes so long, what I really want to do
is start the operation, leave my computer and do something
else for an hour, and come back to find it all done. So
the question is: is there some way to tell Windows at the
start that I want to unconditionally paste all the copied
materials? That is, can I choose "Yes to all" at the start
of the paste operation rather than wait until some special
file comes up?
I am using Windows XP version 5.1.2600.
E-mail reply appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon Siegel
