What version of Word? If it's one that has the "Office Clipboard," that
little tool will clear the contents of the Windows clipboard. To avoid
this, open Word. Then do your copy/paste operations.

Hi Sharon,

Do you mean that when Word launches, it automatically clears the clipboard
of whatever content has been copied into it by using CTRL C or Edit/Copy?

Do you know what version of Word has this "feature" and if it can be turned
off?

This is a known "feature" with Word 2002 also referred to as Word XP. The
clipboard oddity was not fixed with Service Pack 1 or 2. The Office
clipboard can be disabled in Word's settings menus. I actually like the
tool so instead of disabling it, I got into the habit of opening Word
before doing any copying and pasting.

I've run into that in Word 2002 and I, too, would like to be able to turn it
off. I've lost saved bits of text because when I open Word they're gone. It
took me a while to learn what was happening. I'm new to the Office Clipboard.

I've been told by an MVP in Word newsgroups that it only happens in Word as
part of the Works Suite and only when the Word Add-in is installed. I haven't
uninstalled the Add-in so I don't know if that would change the behavior of
Word. I like being able to keep up to 24 saves and I wonder if that would be
lost if Office Clipboard were "disabled."

If you disable the Office clipboard, you are left with the Windows
clipboard which is limited to the current contents only. Sure, clipboard
can save *.CLP files but these are not anywhere near as handy as the
"history" style of clips presented by the Office clipboard. Another
alternative, is one of the many third party clipboard tools that will work
with any application, not just Office prodcuts.

This was what I suspected. I'd rather remember to open Word before I start
copying anything. I like the Office Clipboard's ability to keep the last 24
pieces of copied material.

I feel the same way and have adapted my work habits to keep the Office
Clipboard. Take care, Daleje!
