Converting from string to time and subtracting two time fields

Sorry for cross-posting to access.gettingstarted and this list

Hi,

I am new to Access and my first task is to convert two string fields to time
and subtract them. I want to write a query, which will subtract two fields.
The problem is these two fields are strings. First I need to convert them to
time and then subtract. How should I proceed with this? Do I have to write a
function? I am a beginner so I don't know the starting point. Please, can
anybody help? Thank you very much in advance.
