i recently upgraded my lapton from ME to XP and when doing
so converted to ntfs from fat32. I have discovered that XP
uses too much memory on my laptop and has slowed it down
so much that any task takes a lifetime to complete. i
wanted to uninstall XP, however i am told this cannot be
done (microsoft.com) if i cobverted to ntfs. Can anyone
please help me by telling me how i can convert back to
Fat32 from NTFS? or alternativly tell me another way of
uninstalling XP (i dont mind losing the programmes that
are already stored)
Many thanks

If you want to increase speed, increasing installed RAM helps greatly..
also, you can revert to Win 98 style (classic) which can make a huge
difference in performance.. other than that, you will have to FDISK your
drive to remove the NTFS partition and then reformat and reload ME.. try the
classic thing first

Right click the START button, select properties and then select 'classic'..
now go to CONTROL PANEL - SYSTEM - click on the advanced tab.. now click on
the DETAILS button in the PERFORMANCE section.. select 'adjust for best
performance's but also check the 'use drop shadows'.. this eliminates the
nasty background box behind icon text.. click ok and return to the desktop..

Good luck

Do you mind losing any data on the hard drive? If not
then you can boot the laptop using a windows 98 floppy
boot disk, or similar. Once booted and at the command
prompt, type in fdisk. Select the option to delete
partitions, then choose other partition to delete. This
will allow to you remove the ntfs partition. Then make
sure you create a primary partition otherwise you won't be
able to install any operating system below windows 2000
professional, i.e. windows me, 98.

Post back if you need more info or help.

Good luck

If you have enough room on your hard drive, Partition Magic can convert back
to Fat32. (It creates a back up of your hard drive) This is an overnight
project.
Otherwise you need to start from scratch and re-install XP.
deleting all partitions and formatting for Fat32.
