My old computer just crashed and I just purchased a new
computer with 2003 pre-loaded. I own a business and all
history is in 1997 version. I can open the files but
have been unable to edit any fields. Already tried
finding converters without success. Can someone assist
me or point me in the correct direction to quickly
resolve my frustration since I have been down for several
days and need to get a weeks worth of info input. Thanks

You should be able to use and update the files.
What happens if you try?

Should be no problems with this. I have Excel 97 files which work fine with
2002 and 2003 versions.

No convertor needed.

"Cannot edit any fields" means what?

Are sheets protected?

Excel's file structure has remained unchanged since 1997, right up through the
current version 2003, so you should be able to use them just as you would any
other files. Are the files by any chance on a CD, in which case they may all be
marked up as read-only, in which case just transfer them to your hard drive, use
Windows explorer to find the files, right click on properties and untick the
read-only box.
