Converting a PDF file to word

With difficulty.

Method 1: Use the full version of Acrobat (or equivalent); save as RTF. It
tries to retain the formatting, with varying success depending on the
complexity. You will at least get all the text. Note that PDF files can be
locked to prevent this saving.

Method 2: Again in Acrobat, select the text, copy and paste to Word. (Also
lockable)

Method 3: Install a generic text printer on port FILE:. Print the document
to that. You'll definitely lose all formattng, but the text should be fine.

Method 4: Trawl the shareware sites for PDF utilities that claim they can do
this.

G'Day Joni,

If you have a scanner, then investigate your OCR
software.

I use ABBYY FineReader v7, which will open a
PDF file as an 'image'(!) and 'recognise' all the
text.

Finereader is wonderful software and has been able to do this since version
5. I know it's off topic, but it is hard to imagine what they could have
done in version 7 to make it better than version 6. Did you have the
previous version and thus are able to comment?

Adobe Acrobat 6.0 will save a PDF as a Word DOC file.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

G'Day Graham,

My first version was 6 - and I never got around
to trying it with PDF.

The following files can now be opened in 7:
PPT TXT CSV DBF XLS
RTF DOC PDF HTML Word XML
each with a number of 'Formats' settings.

For PDF these are Text and pictures only
Page image only
Text over the page image
Text under the page image.

Hope this helps!

I guess what I was really asking is whether there is enough improvement in
there to justify the upgrade?
